Some of your favorite songs may be getting a mariachi makeover in the new animated film “The Book of Life”. Gustavo Santaolalla arranged mariachi and norteño versions of Radiohead’s “Creep”, Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend” and Mumford & Sons’ “I Will Wait”.
The film will feature two original songs by Santaolalla and Paul Williams and director Jorge Gutierrez also included Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and Rod Stewarts’ “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”. Other covers in the film include songs by Café Racuba, Kinky and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.
Gutierrez told Billboard, “I thought that at some point they’d be replaced. After we got ‘Creep,’ every band said ‘wow you got Radiohead.’ That made it easier.” “The Book of Life” opens October 17 and is voiced by a huge cast including Christina Applegate, Kate del Castillo, Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Ice Cube and Diego Luna.
