The Super Bowl just added some country star power. Luke Bryan has confirmed that he will be singing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LI (51) at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. He's the first male performer to get the gig since Billy Joel did it in 2007. (Joel also performed the national anthem in 1989)
âI said, âHell yes, Iâll do it!'â Luke tells "People." âIs the anthem challenging? Yes. Is it nerve-wracking? Yes. But I moved to Nashville to follow my dreams and singing the national anthem on that stage doesnât get any bigger.â He adds, "I feel like this is my way of honoring my country. Itâs a little chance to serve.â
This will be Lukeâs first time performing at the Super Bowl. Lady Gaga, whoâs headlining the Super Bowl halftime show this year, sang the National Anthem at last yearâs game. Super Bowl LI kicks off Sunday, February 5th at 6:30pm ET on FOX. Check out Lukeâs announcement to the right.
