Rumors began to circulate Sunday evening on Twitter that Wouter De Backer (better known as the lead singer of Gotye) shot himself in the head, leading CNN to report of the singer's death:
At 4:32 AM EST, it was reported that Gotye had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. He was pronounced dead at 4:45AM, and the investigation concluded that the cause of death was suicide.
Wouter quickly took to Twitter to set the record straight:

It would seem that Wouter's bandmates are not shying away from the opportunity to have a laugh at his expence:
