--Whether you call it country-rock, roots, or alt-country, Old 97’s were right there at the beginning of the genre in the mid 90’s along with Uncle Tupelo, The Jayhawks, and Whiskeytown! Their greatness truly coalesced on 2001’s Satellie Rides with such great songs as “Designs On You”, “Rollerskate Skinny” and “King Of All The World”. They have released several fine albums since and leader Rhett Miller has as well as a solo artist.
Bernie Larsen- The Real Phonic Radio Hour w/ Molly Maher and Erik Koskinen [Highly Recommended Roots & Reggae!!]

--First of all, this venue is an incredibly cool place to see a show. The large 150 ft long Reference Room is four stories tall and is lined with books that do a wonderful job of warming the sound. Larsen is a talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who is highly sought after to record and tour with such greats as Melissa Etheridge, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams. Beyond his further work as an L.A. producer and film music composer, his most personal project is his reggae band, Cry On Cue, which has toured with Jimmy Cliff and The Wailers! These Real-Phonic Radio Hour shows draw a who’s who of top local musicians and you end up with many interesting combos of players throughout the evening.
Dinosaur Jr. [Loud Guitar-Driven Alt-Rock]

--Along with The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr. helped create the alt-rock genre in the 80’s with its loud fuzzy, distorted guitars and lots of feedback. The original lineup reformed in 2005 so you can expect songs from throughout their career including off their brand new, critically acclaimed album, “I Bet on Sky”.
Regina Spektor [Indie Piano Folk N’ Pop]

--Russian-born and classically trained on piano, this NYC resident is often associated with the “anti-folk” movement that has sprung up out of Greenwich Village over the last decade. Though not sure what that term means, I just like her mix of jazz, blues, folk and indie pop! This show should appeal to fans of piano pop, Fiona Apple and Sara Bareilles.

--You’ll get a lot of bang for your $25. Doors open at 6:00 and you can stroll the Tropics Trail, check out the Tropical Reef exhibit and there is beer, wine, and light fare available for purchase. The show, in the new intimate Target Learning Center theater, begins with a 15 minute on-stage version of the Zoo’s famous Bird Encounter show and then, after all that, you still have a full show by one our best local jazz bands, The Atlantis Quartet.
Ruth Moody [Folk, Member of The Wailin’ Jenny’s]

--Born in Australia, raised in Canada and owner of a wonderful soprano voice, Moody is also a talented multi-instrumentalist and winner of several Juno Awards as a member of the internationally acclaimed folk-rock trio The Wailin’ Jenny’s, a Cedar favorite. Her more ethereal solo debut, The Garden, was also nominated for a Juno this year. You can expect solo songs and a few Jennys’ favorites.
