We've been eStalking Michael Fitzpatrick and his band of Tantrums ever since the day they announced that they'd be taking a break from touring to write and record the follow-up to their 2010 debut; hanging on each tweet and YouTube upload in hopes of hearing even a 10 second snippit of a brand new FATT tune. The time for teasing is over!
We proudly present to you 'Out of My League' from Fitz & the Tantrums' forthcoming full length release 'More Than Just a Dream':
The Tantrums are clearly aiming to break out of the retro-soul mold with 'Out of My League' - It's surprisingly saxaphone-less with a tight drum machine driven groove and a big synth + guitar stacked chorus that feels more 80's than 60's but in the best possible way:
We wanted to show people that this band was more than a 'retro band.' We'd all gotten a little bit tired of that one moniker that kept getting applied to us. To me, obviously, there was obviously a lot of Motown, retro-soul influence to (the first record), but there was just as much Eighties influence, indie-rock influence, new-wave and hip-hop all mixed in. That first record was that kind of hybrid, and on this record, we just wanted to push it even more forward and take even more chances, and it just required a lot of experimentation.
So what do you think? Is the vibe of 'Out of My League' working for you or do you long for mo' Motown from Fitz & the Tantrums? Cast your vote or leave a comment below!
'More Than Just a Dream' is slated for release on May 7th and while 'Out of My League' is only avilable to stream at the moment, it will be made available for download via iTunes with full album preorder options soon.
