I titled this "My Favorite Songs Of 2012" cuz who's to say they're the best? They're MY favorite, but that doesn't make them best. Just one dude's opinion. I've been having fun with this whole list thing. (I've never really done them before). Hope you are too......
I don't have a lot to write about each individual song. Some struck a deep chord, some were just listened to endlessly for long runs, some are just flat out fun to shake your booty to.
Also, I couldn't decide on 10 for a nice round number as everyone seems to do, so there are 13, 6 today and 7 for tomorrow's blog. Some of these come from late 2011, but all were largely listened to in 2012 and made their impact on me in 2012.
The Belle Brigade "I Didn't Mean It" (Indie dancy goodness)
Phillip Phillips "Home" (I mean, if you listen at all you know I was obsessed with this song for a couple months. It's beautiful. Perfect lyrics. And about as humble, down to Earth dude as one could meet)
Delta Rae "Bottom Of The River" (It's tough to find a unique song these days. Though, it's reminiscient of Fleetwood Mac, I still stamp unique on this track cuddled by fantastic vocals! Also, I think you'll sense a theme the rest of the way, I believe in musical girl power)
The Divine Fits "Would That Not Be Nice" (I'm not sure that it matters that this song references Minnesota, but it doesn't not matter. :) This is my kinda music. It's got indie street cred, but is packaged with a delicious pop polish)
Brandi Carlile "That Wasn't Me" (I could've easily swapped this for "Raise Hell", but "That Wasn't Me" was my first real exposure to Brandi and had a profound impact on my musical year of 2012. This is as powerful a song as was written this year)
Ellie Goulding "Anything Could Happen" (Another one of those songs I didn't get at first, but it's grown on me. Big time. Straight. Up. Ear. Candy. Yum.)
Alabama Shakes "Hold On" (Talkin about getting blindsided by brilliance. Heard this song described as "truck-stop-swagger". I think there's more there than that, but it's a good start)
