I love winter, but even I have my limits. As February nears an end, I find myself anxious for Spring. The days are finally getting longer, but I still want spring to get here faster. It is during these waning, impatient days of Winter to remember that perspective is everything.
Here is a good example. This song was written about the depths of Winter darkness that most of us have never known. The band, Norwegian duo Kings Of Convenience, come from the town of Bergen, where December offers less than 6 hours of sunlight each day. The winters are longer and darker than even ours are. I believe that makes their appreciation of Spring all the greater. I believe it is that spirit that informs this song, but I also believe it is a metaphor meant to convey that no matter how long any darkness might last, there will surely, one day, be light and warmth again. You may lose faith, but that is when it might just surprise you.
