Given Sharon Jones’ health concerns announced June 3, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have
canceled their album release and 2013 tour, which formerly included a performance at this year’s Cities97 Basilica Block Party.
But! A fantastic replacement has been found! Rahpael Saadiq! Allow me to quote from yesterday's Basilica Block Party press release:
"Raphael Saadiq is a Grammy Award winning soul singer, songwriter and record producer who spent his early days with the soul trios Tony! Toni! Tone! and Lucy Pearl. He’s released numerous critically acclaimed solo albums including “Instant Vintage,” “Ray Ray,” “Stone Rollin” and “The Way I See It,” which boasted four Billboard R&B chart singles and three Grammy Award nominations."
Saadiq's latest release, 2011's Stone Rollin' is a groovy chunk of Funked-uo neo-soul and R&B. Seriously, tell me you won't dance to THIS on Night Two of the Basilica Block Party. Dig!

I know nothing about the French artists that created this imaginative look back, but I do know it is completely amazing! This video proves that not only is my prediction that 'Get Lucky' is going to be THE jam of Summer 2013, it also proves that this song is so incredible that it would be a hit in almost any decade. Enjoy!
Of the many albums I fell in love with as a teenager, The Replacements 'Let It Be' was one of the greatest. Its impact on me was profound, to say the least. So news of a possible reunion hit me hard. I mean, the band hasn't played live in 22 years! Paul Westerberg has been releasing music as a solo artist for two decades and Tommy Stinson has been playing bass for Guns N Roses for the last 15 years! Both are founding members of the band and both will be involved in the reunion that will take place at Riot Fest Chicago and similar concerts in Toronto and Denver.
The following excerpt from Paste Magazine offers more details:
'The band initially teased their fanbase with rumors of a comeback tour after releasing the Songs for Slim EP on behalf of former guitarist Slim Dunlap, who was recovering from a severe stroke. Paul Westerberg was the one who hinted at the reunion to Rolling Stone, stating that although he would “hate to start it up again,” he said“It’s possible. I’m closer to it now than I was two years ago, that’s for sure.” Then, following the Riot Fest’s official announcement, a Twitter announcement from the Replacements that read, “We’re getting the band back together. #riotfest,” was aired, then quickly deleted'

So what's the big deal? Dude, it's The REPLACEMENTS!!
Like I said The Replacements 1984 record 'Let It Be' hit me hard when I was 16, so hard that it left a mark. This song still churns my guts every time I hear it...
